A chemical peel is painted onto your the skin to produce a highly accelerated skin exfoliation. Chemical peels go deep into the skin resulting in a brighter and smoother complexion than standard exfoliation techniques.



Chemical peels - The chemical peel procedure

Light chemical peels
Alphahydroxy acids, including glycolic, lactic and fruit acid, are some of the chemicals used in light peels and are generally used to remove fine wrinkles, dry skin areas, uneven pigmentation and acne. Light chemical peels improve the texture of the skin and do not require a period of recovery after their use. Light chemical peels contain a low quantity of acid and can be administered by a beautician.

Medium chemical peels
Trichloroacetic acid peels are stronger and produce a medium depth peel. These medium acidic chemical peels can cause slight swelling and temporary scabs to form.

Deep chemical peels

Deep chemical peels should always be applied by a doctor or a registered nurse. You may feel some stinging during a deep chemical peel. When this type of chemical peel is removed the top layer of skin is removed along with it.

What is the recovery time after a chemical peel?
After having a deep or medium strength chemical peels it can take a couple of weeks for the skin to recover and you may still have some slight redness, which can be covered up with make up. The skin is only slightly pink after light chemical peels.

What are the risks?
You must always wear high strength sunblock immedialtely after having any chemical peel. Otherwise yoou may have a blotchy complexion. Always have a full consultation with the doctor or registered nurse before you have a chemical peel so you fully understand any risks.

How long do chemical peels last?
If you follow all the after care recommendations the effects can last up to 12 months.

Dermalift ®
Dermalift ® is a chemical peel used for the treatment of acne scarring and face wrinkles and lines.

Dermalift ® is a deep chemical peel undertaken using an analgesia (a minor type of anaesthesia) as their is an itching feeling experienced during the application.

The effects of Dermalift ® are said to be long lasting, several years for the wrinkle treatment and permanently for scarring (if during this time there is no new acne). The Dermalift ® treatment can then be repeated if required.
